We are ready for Chanukah! We learned the story of the mean King Antiochus, who told the Jewish people they couldn’t be Jewish. We learned how the brave Maccabees fought back and never gave up their faith. We also learned about the miracles, including finding a small amount of oil to light the Menorah in the Beit Hamikdash and how the small Maccabee army defeated the huge Greek army.

We created Menorahs out of clay in the shape of Israel, where these big miracles took place.

We made Menorahs out of Play Doh, made slime with dreidels, and explored candles of different shapes.

We did a science experiment about fire and learned that it needs oxygen to breathe. When you take away the air, the flame goes out.

We also spoke about fire safety and had so much fun pretending to be firefighters putting out a burning fire. We counted with our fire theme and used magnet wands to rescue numbers from the fire.

We loved baking Chanukah cookies and creating artwork inspired by fire.

Our letter this week was I, and in Hebrew we learned the letter Tet, the tiger tail Tet. We used toy insects as we marched along the letter I, and we enjoyed learning about toiveling dishes for the letter Tet and practiced dipping our dishes into a pretend mikvah to elevate them.

We enjoyed music with Morah Robin and Playball with Coach Anthony this week.

We love ending our week with challah baking and our Shabbat party.
