Shavuot

Shavuot is here, and we are so excited to celebrate the holiday when G-d gave us the Torah on Mount Sinai!

This week, we used feather quills and ink to practice our Hebrew letters. We learned that all of our Mezuzot, Tefillin, and Torah scrolls are written by a scribe on special parchment made from animal hide, using special ink.
We created beautiful Torah covers, cutting out shapes for decoration inspired by the artist Henri Matisse.
We also learned that it’s a custom to eat dairy foods on Shavuot. To explore this tradition, we practiced “milking” a cow and talked about how all dairy products come from cow’s milk.
One of our favorite Shavuot treats is ice cream! We had so much fun mixing ingredients, adding rock salt, and shaking everything together in bags to make our own homemade vanilla ice cream. We even played ice cream shop, using our Hebrew letters to match colors to different scoops of ice cream.
In science, we enjoyed watching crystals form, and we practiced our alphabet using clothespins. We had a blast playing in our camping tent and worked on sequencing during math time.
We also made lovely lavender flowers using Q-tips dipped in paint.

We loved our music session with Benny and Yoga with Ms. Ace.
We wrapped up our short week with Challah baking and our joyful Shabbat party.
