This week, we focused on learning about Hashem. We learned that during the Hebrew month of Elul, we hear the shofar blow daily to remind us to wake up and do mitzvot as we prepare for the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah. We spoke about how Hashem, our King, is here with us “in the field,” ready to hear our thank-yous and requests. During davening, we are taking a moment to add in words that come not from our siddur (prayer book), but from our hearts.

We used gems to create patterns on the kings’ crowns and enjoyed dramatic play with the kings’ costumes.

For sensory fun, we mixed colors and made “cupcakes” for the birthday of the world using shaving cream, and we also baked real brownies to celebrate being back at school.

Our artist of the week was Vincent van Gogh. We focused on his famous Sunflowers painting and created our own artwork using his colors.

We also began making honey dishes and used balloons in bee colors to decorate our Rosh Hashana projects.

In addition, we enjoyed playing with pasta, playdough, and pipe cleaners to strengthen our fine motor skills. We had our introduction to both the English and Hebrew alphabets, focusing on the letter Alef and the letter Aa, which we will continue exploring next week.

We love ending our week with challah baking and our grand Shabbat party!
